Short answer

Not for most listings. Hire a videographer when spatial flow, an on-camera agent, drone work, or a genuinely cinematic production is the point, which usually means luxury or flagship properties. For social content and standard listings, a directed video built from listing photos covers the need at a fraction of the cost.

01

When a videographer is the right call

Hire one when the property sells on how spaces connect, when you need to appear on camera, when aerial footage genuinely matters, or when the price point makes production quality part of the positioning. In those situations nothing else substitutes.

02

When it is overkill

A standard listing that needs a social post and a listing-page video does not require a crew. The cost and scheduling rarely justify the difference for content that will be watched for twenty seconds on a phone.

03

The hybrid most agents land on

Filmed production on flagship listings, photo-derived video as the default on everything else. This puts motion on every listing rather than concentrating the entire budget on one property.

04

What you give up

Continuous camera movement through space, live audio, an on-camera presence, and drone perspective. If none of those are the selling point, the gap for a social viewer is small.
